Saturday Night DrillsThey're cheaply made. They're easily available.
They're surreptitiously sold at clandestine "garage sales"
and out of the trunks of cars. They are used in more criminal building
projects than any other tool. Yes, we're talking about "Saturday
Night Drills." Although recent police-sponsored "Tool- Buyback Programs" have proved successful in getting some Saturday Night Drills" off our streets, neighborhoods all over the country reverberate to the sounds of these dangerous tools every week end, as amateur "carpenters" use, misuse, and abuse these substandard "tools." While the powerful Tool Lobby will falsely claim that Americans have the right to keep and use tools, no reasonable person would argue that this would include an unsafe tool. Some of these tools are ten, twenty, even thirty years old- would you purchase a car or TV made to 1960's specifications? Yet hundreds of thousands of these tools change hands every week, at garage sales and swap meets across the country. No background checks. No owner's manuals. No questions. Often no talking at all, except, "Here is your change." It's frightening! |
