Tools In Schools
Recently, one of the M.I.L.T. staff made a shocking discovery. While
going through her son's desk, she found a tool catalog hidden underneath
a stack of
American
Rifleman magazines.
"Naturally, I was shocked," exclaimed
the mother, who preferred- for obvious reasons- to remain nameless.
"I never thought my son would be interested in this sort of thing-
after all, we've had a talk!" But another, more shocking surprise
was in store.
"When he got home I asked him about
it, and he very nonchalantly told me that he got it from a boy in his
Industrial Arts class. When I asked him what he did in Industrial Arts
class, he told me they make things... WITH POWER TOOLS!"
Yes, parents, tucked away in a separate building,
far from the watchful eyes of the cummunity, your school district
is probably coaxing your children towards the Jaws of Industrial
Injury! Cleverly named "Industrial Arts" or "Vocational
Arts" courses, there's nothing artful about the way they lure impressionable
children into the maw of dangerous power tools.
That's
why M.I.L.T. is sponsoring the Tool Free Schools Act of 1999,
designed to keep tools away from schools. Scenes like the one at left
are becoming more commonplace across America, where tool pushers set
up shop mere steps away from impressionable youth. The Tool Free
Schools Act of 1999 will help keep tools out of schools, by making
it illegal for any tool retailer, wholesaler, or distributor to operate
within one mile of any school..
