Although I believe everyone has a right to their opinion, I must say
that I am appalled after reviewing your web site!! At first I thought
this must be a joke, but after further review I realize this is serious
-- amazing!!

How many of the contributors to this site have ever used the tools
referred to? Yes, there are ways to make tools more safely than to
totally ignore safety, but to call a drill an "Assault Drill?" --
incredible!! When will you be lobbying to eliminate silverware at the
table -- do you know the damage that can be done with a fork or a table
knife? Were I Snap-On, I would sue you for libel for publishing the
truck with the "Assault Drill" logo
(http://www.frenchu.com/tpg/drill_kk.html). Further, what does the
semi-topless woman on the page http://www.frenchu.com/tpg/drill_rr.html
supposed to do to support you position -- are you also for pornagraphy?

I would suggest that if you feel strongly about these issues, yes,
encourage the production of safer tools, but more importantly, stress
education for the safe use and storage of such tools. Do you leave your
carving knives out for children to play with? I suspect not -- you
realize the risk of these utensils and educate your children of the
danger. Further, I suspect you store such dangerous items out of normal
reach of children.

I grew up on a farm where the dangers you indicate are trivial in
comparison. However, my parents did a very good job of educating us
about the dangers and how to minimize risks. I'm sure some of the
specifics would shock you...

I leave you with these questions:
If your actions raise the prices of products that you and others
normally purchase, are you willing to pay? This would include any item
produced with the tools you indicate, including your house, furniture,
services such as a plumber, etc.
Do you realize that many of the suggestions you make are
impractical? What good is a safe tool if it does not perform the
function it was designed for? Plastic lawn mower blades -- I guarantee
you that you will loose a finger or toe just as fast as with steel
blades when the blade is moving at full speed.
Do you realize that many of the safety features you propose actually
make some of the tools less safe? For example, struggling with a
trigger lock on a portable circular saw resulting in a lost grip on the
tool and a subsequent injury?

I'm sorry, but you nor I will ever be able to prevent people from having
accidents, and even more unfortunate, from doing stupid things like
improperly using or storing tools.

Sincerely yours,

Lee V.
